Despite one of the worst seasons in the history, Manchester United have emerged as the most favourite team for television audience in the United States. After a very poor campaign in which they could only manage a seventh place finish, United will have some reasons to be confident ahead of the new season. They have appointed Dutch coach Louis van Gaal as the new manager, while the latest statistics also revealed that they have lost none of the brand image as a result of the poor season.
Premier league TV revenues have also been revealed and the club are set to earn more than £ 90 million for the season. Only the top four clubs like Manchester city and Chelsea can boast of this record. This is also a huge increase over the £ 60 million that they received for winning the league title last season. This is because of the new TV deal signed by the Premier league. NBC universal networks, which has the rights for telecasting Premier league in the United States, says that United managed to get just over 5 million viewers for each of their live match.
This was just ahead of the figures recorded by Liverpool and Chelsea. Champions Manchester city, meanwhile, registered around 4.5 million viewers during the same period. Teams at the lower end of the table have had less viewership with the likes of Southampton and Stoke city registering just over 3 million viewers. The Premier league continues to remain as the most watched league across the world and this is due to several aspects like kick-off timings and the presence of established names like Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard playing in the division.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, registered just 2.8 million viewers during the same period. Manchester United will be without Champions League football next season.
